Ships "Oscar", "Magnet" and the "Imperial" James E. Crosby had command of the Imperial for 22 years in the California and China trade. He died from a cold in Melrose Ma. after a voyage from Manila to Philadelphia. Born in Brewster . He was a captain at 19 years of age. He carried his wife Modena and son Freeman on a voyage when Freeman was a year old. He was born in Brewster and bought the family homestead at the time of his fathers death. He later lived in Melrose at 72 Trenton St. We have a picture of his home in Brewster next to Lathams on the pond with Emma Oakes Crosby ( Freeman M.Crosby's Wife ) out front. There is a picture of the "Magnet" and his certificate of membership in the Boston Marine Society. Modena continued to live in Melrose with Freeman M. and Emma O. until her death in 1930. Modena was born in Pugwash N.S. Her Parents were Maynard Parker and Catherine Spurr Parker . There is a possibility that the Parkers moved to the Pochet section of Orleans and lived in a large house with a widows walk on Bridge St. Their Birthplaces were both Annapolis N.S. His records are in Barnstable , Melrose , Brewster and State archives. Note that Modena Parker is referred to as Mordena on her death certificate also her parents are listed as "Packard" But all other information seems correct. ================================================= James Harold Crosby ( 1878 - (?) ) [3] Born June 3,1878 Brewster Mass. Darling on Feb. 9, 1892. We have been unable to locate Margurite Crosby's birth record. Edwin Crosby ( 1868 - (?) ) [3] Born Nov. 5, 1868 ( Brewster Mass ) Died (?) Parents James E. and Modena P. Crosby [2] We Have done extensive research on Edwin Crosby and have been unable to come up with much. An Edwin Crosby is listed in the Boston Directory circa 1907 as a Broker ( Bonds ) and he has a Hotel address. Rumor has it that he was to marry Charlotte Carmon ( a friend of Emma O. Crosby ) at one time . He didn't marry her and she remained unmarried living in Boston. His birth record does not show a name but only "Male" and it does show the correct parents, birthplace etc. Mabel Crosby ( 1874 - 1946 ) [3] Born March 15, 1874 ( Brewster Mass ) Died July 13, 1946 ( Westboro Mass ) Married Frederick G. Dorothy Perkins is listed as sole heir in 1946. They lived in Somerville Mass. at 29 Pearson Ave. Fred was listed as a retired Hood's store Manager His parents were Seth B. Perkins of Belle Isle N.S. and Matilda Leonard of St. John N.B. At the time of Mabel's death Miss Dorothy E. Perkins was listed and was apparently unmarried.
